IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) is dedicated to increasing public understanding and appreciation of contemporary Native artwork, history and tradition via presentation, collection and acquisition, preservation, and interpretation. From its earliest years, the Museum celebrated the changing roles of craftsmanship in society, served as an important advocate for rising artists, and linked art to business. To accommodate its ever-growing programming, the Museum relocated once more in 1986 to its 18,000-square-foot residence at 40 West 53rd Street, the place it would remain till 2008. The next ten years had been a interval of rapid development and change, because the American Craft Council was restructured and the Museum and the Council had been established as independent organizations. It contains: 4 floors of exhibition galleries for works by established and rising artists; a a hundred and fifty-seat auditorium wherein the museum plans to characteristic lectures, movies, and performances; and a restaurant. This process led to the Museum’s title change, in 2002, to the Museum of Arts and Design to replicate the establishment’s more and more interdisciplinary collections and programming.

The National Gallery was established in 1920, and rapidly became a middle for Georgian arts and culture. In 1979, the Museum reopened as the American Craft Museum in an expanded location at 44 West 53rd Street. From 1963 to 1987, underneath the directorship of Paul J. Smith , the Museum offered dynamic and often participatory exhibitions that reflected the social currents of the period and broke down hierarchies within the arts with the celebration of standard culture and mundane materials. The Museum first opened its doorways in 1956 as the Museum of Contemporary Crafts, with an unique mission of recognizing the craftsmanship of up to date American artists. On February, 15, 2013 at 4pm The National Museum of Sh. Amiranashvili Museum of Fine Arts presents Azerbaijan’s crocheted rugs and displays.

Nurtured by the imaginative and prescient of philanthropist and craft patron Aileen Osborn Webb , the Museum mounted exhibitions that focused on the materials and methods associated with craft disciplines. Curator and architect Brent Eckerman will lead a constructing tour and reflect on how Frederick Fisher and Partners modernized the building, embraced the Irving J. Gill design, and created a unique visible arts setting. MoCNA’s exhibitions, packages, and its Collection of Contemporary Native Arts are integral to nurturing and progress of the Institute of American Indian Arts legacy, college group, and curriculum across tutorial and artistic disciplines. This exhibition is the first major museum survey of Australian painter, and Archibald Prize 2016 winner, Louise Hearman, that includes work and drawing from throughout 25 years of work. Giving youngsters a strong base within the arts teaches practical skills, self-self-discipline, confidence, creativity and significant considering, and supplies an outlet for artistic expression. Holly Hotchner was appointed as director of the Museum in 1996, and served as director for 16 years until 2013.

MoCNA encourages inventive expression throughout the fields of arts and tradition as a possibility to have interaction, set up, foster, and cultivate in cross-cultural dialogue with communities at the local, nationwide, and international degree. In addition to displays of its permanent collection, the museum presents an exciting schedule of 9 rotating exhibitions and greater than one hundred annual museum packages and events all year long that enrich the lives of youngsters and adults alike. The Gallery was reorganized in 1932, and the Fine Art Museum was founded on its foundation. On March 7-th, 2013, at 5 PM the Georgian National Museum Shalva Amiranashvili Museum of Fine Arts represents a spring exhibition of modern Georgian artists.
